The SB8 mentioned has nice characteristics but they pack up fast as do other tiny tread tires. My unexpected favorite for rolling well on hard stuff and pavement but honestly good for off road traction is the MSO (was Clement, now Donley). The center really helps you roll fast and the rest is open enough to give you traction and throw what might stick. The center ridge also has a lot of sipes or cuts and they surprised me with how good when you hit packed snow and ice.

Weight weenies might not like the MSO tires but they’re truly good tubeless, have a protection layer, and a product where being a multi-tool or do it all is a complement vs too much compromise.

Confession: I got them as OEM tires thinking they would be replaced and I consider them among the better tires ever (and I’m an old fart).
